Windows 2000 and Windows 7 Uplift+ Migration Solution
On July 13, 2010, extended support for Windows 2000 will end. The product will no
longer be publicly supported after this date. No security updates or service packs
will be available. As a result, it is critical for organizations to establish a
migration plan to ensure business continuity.
Soroc offers a Windows Uplift+ solution that combines processes and tools to expedite
the migration of applications from Windows Server 2000 to 2003/2008 (32 or 64 bit)
or Windows XP/Vista to Windows 7 on the desktop.
Soroc’s solution is based on a framework that combines proven processes with best-in-breed
toolsets to reduce migration expense, risk and timeline. The framework consists
of a four stage approach:
|
Inventory
- Leverage client application inventory database
- Run tools such as Microsoft® MAPS to inventory applications running on Windows 2000
|
|
Analyze
- Extract application ‘DNA’, from both the installation routine and binary files
- Interrogate the ‘DNA’ against a set of algorithms to determine which applications
will migrate to Microsoft® Windows 2003 and Server 2008, and will run under 64 bit
|
|
Report
- Provide Red/Yellow/Green traffic-light report detailing which applications will
migrate without issues, will require further testing or will fail and require remediation
- Deliver a report detailing the rules the application is breaking, causing the failure
- Provide a combination of automatic fixes and remediation advice
|
|
Plan
- Produce an informed and accurate remediation plan
- Determine time, effort and financial investment required
- Identify skill sets needed to complete the migration
